To celebrate International Women's Day, we've decided to turn it into a week full of celebrating women we admire and who we think are really making a difference. Every day this week, we're going to be bringing you one powerhouse a day.
In the final segment of this series, we got to interview Emily Chappel, a producer at Foundation.FM.
Here's what Emily had to say...
In your own words, tell us what you do?
On the daily, I am Assistant Producer at The Digital Fairy✨ where I help make our team's creative ideas come to life on shoots, in animation, websites, & anything we can get our digi hands.
I also run a non-profit called Future Girl Corp with some amazing business women. Our mission is to support the next gen of female CEOs and business leaders. I get to meet so many impressive gals which is super energising.
What inspired you guys to start Foundation FM?
Frankie is ring leader of Foundation.FM. Her, Ami & Becky founded last year. I interviewed them on how the station came to be on my first episode of FGC on Foundation.fm which focused on vision. Mainly, it was born out of a bad employment experience Frankie had.
I’m sure you’ve met some pretty awesome people whilst doing this – who’s been the best guest you’ve had?
I know most of guest or have met before they come on, which is great as I use previous conversations to inform radio discussion. It's hard to choose a fave when they're pals, but there was great vibes when Amanda Maxwell & Sereena Abbassi were on talking about Diversity & Inclusion.
What’s it like to know you’re being heard by hundreds of thousands of people? Do you ever feel nervous about what you say?
Well, I don't think it's hundreds of thousands of people (yet!!) but I am just so grateful to anyone who tunes in & hope the conversions help them. I don't get nervous, perhaps it's because I pre-recod so if it's truly tragic we can always edit those bits out!
What’s your best advice for girls wanting to start a business now?
It's never been easier so DO IT NOW. Legit, you can incorporate your firm & have a website for about £100 - then from there you just have to network & email like crazy. You need to cause & find opportunities for you & your business & there's no better way to do that then networking.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?
Be brilliant. My dad used to tell me this everyday before school, so just trying keep that up!
